 Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Covenant Health Care-Cooper. Age 86 years. The son of the late Edward and Ella (Williams) Hertz, Roy was born August 13, 1924 in Saginaw, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. Roy married Sophie Pahota, his loving wife of 63 years, on May 31, 1947. She survives him. He was employed at Becker Distributing for 30 years until his retirement in 1985. Roy was a member of St. Josaphat Catholic Church and its Ushers Club, Knights of Columbus Council #4232, Teamsters Local #486 and the Washington Society.

 Surviving besides his wife Sophie are one daughter and two sons, Gloria and Rick Sahlhoff, St. Joseph; Dale and Cheryl Hertz, Bay City; Rick Hertz, Saginaw; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Rogissart, Laura (Ryan) Quinn, Joshua Hertz, Tricia (Chad) Hall and Jill (Mark) Charters; 10 great-grandchildren, Kelly, Jordan, Abby, Lauren, Daniel, Matthew, Claire, Aiden, Erin and Elise; several nieces and nephews; dear cousins, Doris and Vern Beiser; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Josephine and Dan Witkowski, St. Charles; brother-in-law, James Swaffield; many dear friends.  Roy was preceded in death by a brother, Glen W. Hertz, Sr.; sister-in-law, Stella Swaffield.

 Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2010 at St. Josaphat Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Ronald Dombrowski will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at St. Josaphat Catholic Church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Knights of Columbus Council #4232 will pray the rosary at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Josaphat Catholic Church or Washington Society.
