Beatrice Mae Borg died Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at Tawas St. Joseph Health Center. She was 89.
A resident of Tawas City since 2001, she was born in Juniata Township, Vassar, Michigan, to the late Ernest and Florence (Hammond) Lane. She married Donald Borg on June 26, 1943.
Beatrice earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan in 1941. For three years she taught vocal music to grades 1-12 at Lake Shore High School in St. Clair Shores. After World War II, she taught elementary and junior high music in Cass City. She moved to Saginaw in 1952 and taught kindergarten for one year at Emerson. She retired from North Intermediate after teaching English and social studies for 26 years. For 40 years she performed with her husband, singing duets for several occasions. While spending her winters in Florida she was an accompanist for many soloists and choral groups. She was a member of the Saginaw Association of Retired School Personnel, the Kerr Travel Club of Flint, Alcona Retired School Personnel and the Tawas Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by brothers Hammond and Harold Lane of Vassar. She is survived by her husband, Donald; her son Raymond (Wendy Wilber), of Syracuse, NY; daughter Miriam (Edward) Mangus, of Whittemore; sister-in-law Suzanne Lane, Vassar; grandchildren Susan Borg Elam, Ohio; Brian (Emily) Borg, Texas; their mother Barbara Borg, Ohio; Donald (Rachel) Mangus, Ypsilanti; Chris Mangus, Bay City; and great-grandchildren Rachael, Mattison and Gerron Elam, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held at Tawas Village on Sunday,
September 27, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the
family, who will in turn make donations in her name to support an education
program.
