Passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness Friday afternoon March 11, 2011 at Covenant HealthCare-Harrison in Saginaw at the age of 27 years. Matthew was born January 5, 1984 in Saginaw, MI to Douglas and Marcia (Stack) Schilling and has resided in this area all of his life. Matthew was a member of Kochville United Methodist Church in Saginaw. Matthew was a 2003 graduate of Freeland High School where he began his career as a pastry chef by working in a co-op program at Kathleen's Restaurant at Apple Mountain Resort. He also developed a love for bagpipe music while in High School. He lived in Chicago from 2006-2010 where he worked as a pastry chef. He returned to Michigan in 2010 and was working at Crumbs Cookie Cafe' in Saginaw as a pastry chef. Matt loved his family and friends and adored his little niece Brigit (his Gigit).

 

Matthew is survived by his parents; Doug and Marcia Schilling of Freeland, his sister; Leisa Schilling and her partnerJon Rankin, a niece; Brigit Rankin, aunts and uncles; Melanie Stack of Saginaw, Betsy (Jack) Osborn of Caro, Mary Schilling of Saginaw, Terry Stack of Saginaw and Pam Stack of Brandt. Many cousins and close friends also survive Matthew. His grandparents; Peter and Josephine Schilling, donald and Betty Stack, an Uncle; Peter Schilling, a infant Cousin; Evlin Linzner and a friend; Arianna Lynn Thomas have predeceased Matthew.

 

Funeral and committal services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday March 15, 2011 at the Kochville United Methodist Church in Saginaw. Rev. Susan Bennett Stiles will officiate with cremation to follow. Friends may call at the Cunningham/Taylor Funeral Home, 310 E. Washington, Freeland on Monday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Those planning and expression are asked to consider the family wishes.
