Alfred Peter Martin - age 88 of Owosso, passed away Saturday, May 21st, 2011 at Memorial Healthcare Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Mowen Funeral Home - William A. Scarlett Memorial Chapel, 409 West Main Street, Owosso, Michigan with Fr. Steven McDonald, St. Joseph of Armada Catholic Church, Richmond, Michigan as celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Friends may call on the family at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 24th from 5 PM to 8 PM.

Alfred was born in Linwood, Michigan on May 5, 1923, the son of Fred and Florence (Turcott) Martin. Following high school he attended trade school and became a tool & die skilled tradesman. He married Christine D. Pomaville in Linwood on September 6, 1947. He worked numerous years in Bay City. Mr. Martin moved to Owosso and worked for Strawsine Manufacturing and eventually retired from Midwest Abrasives as a supervisor. He resided in Owosso for the last 47 years.

Mr. Martin sang in the church choir from his youth into adulthood and accompanied many choirs on the organ. He was a professed member of the Third Order of St. Francis since 1953, and member of the Holy Name Society since 2005.

His survivors include: wife, Christine; 15 children, Michael Martin, Jonathan (Mary Rae) Martin, Mary (David) Linabury, Theresa (Anthony) Lamb, Joseph Martin, Anthony Martin, Catherine (Philip) Livingston, Joan (Mark) Lotarski, Monica (Scott) Chisolm, Christopher Martin, Anna (Bruce) Van Hyfte, Elizabeth (Todd) Ainsworth, Victoria (Michael) Denham, Madeline Martin, Peter (Kelly) Martin; 47 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two brothers; one sister; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters.

As a token of sympathy, masses are suggested to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 28049 School Section, Richmond, Michigan 48062.
