CARO
Bernice M. Britton, age 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the James E. Cartwright Care Center in Saginaw. Bernice was born on Christmas Day in 1922 in Caro, the daughter of the late Walter T. & Julia (Uhan) Sayers, and was a lifelong Caro resident. She was employed in her earlier years at Thumb Laundry & Dry Cleaning, where she would meet her future husband. Bernice was united in marriage with James Britton on November 11, 1947 in Caro, and the couple cherished their twenty-five years together before his death in 1973. Bernice will be remembered most for her love of family. She also enjoyed eating and sharing Hershey’s Kisses, and listening to Polka, Christmas and oldies music on the radio, and was especially partial to radio hosts, Delilah and Scott Reese. The family will continue to cherish Bernice’s common parting words, “Be a good girl.”
Bernice is survived by one daughter, Linda A. Thompson of Saginaw; two granddaughters, Sarah Thompson and her companion, Kami, of Saginaw, Jennifer Christopher and her husband, Robert, of Saginaw; one great-grandson, Zachry Christopher and his companion, Natalie, of Saginaw; one brother, Leland Sayers of Caro; one sister, Joann Roose of Vassar; and her beloved great-granddogs, Harley David and Haddie Mae and great-grandcats, Pooh Bear and Karamello; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Bernice was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Sayers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, July 15, 2011 at the Ransford Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Gregg Mayberry officiating. Burial will follow at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday from 12:00 PM until the time of the service at 1:00 PM. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the James E. Cartwright Care Center or the hospice of the donor’s choice.
