Lewicki, Clemens of Flushing, age 94, peacefully passed away Sunday, September 25, 2011 at his residence, with his family and close friend by his side.  Cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Burial of cremated remains will be at Arlington National Cemetery.  If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Clem’s name to the Flushing Historical Society, Friends of the Flushing Library or the Flushing Senior Center.

 

Clemens was born in Bay City, Michigan on October 21, 1916, the son of Frank and Frances (Smentczak) Lewicki, who were Polish immigrants.  Clemens graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1935.  He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1939 where he retired in 1961 as Chief Master Sgt. after 22 years of service and two wars, Pacific and Korean.  Clemens then attended Michigan State University where he graduated with a Masters degree in Journalism and became a teacher, working in the Beecher School District until the 1980’s.

 

Clemens is survived by his wife, Yoriko Shirai of 55 years; sister, Della (100 years old), Angeline; 6 nieces and 3 nephews.  He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Walter, Leo, Florian and sister, Emily.
